Short version: Artha sends the photo, PDF or text you choose to an AI service only to write your answer. Our server does not keep it. There are no accounts, no ads and no analytics. Your answers are saved only on your phone.
What happens when you ask Artha
- You choose a photo, a PDF or some text (for example an SMS). Nothing is sent until you choose it.
- The app sends it, with the language you picked, to our server at
artha.girishdevstack.com, which passes it to an AI service to read it and write the explanation. - Our server does not store the photo, PDF, text or answer, and does not write their content to its logs.
The AI service
Artha currently uses Google's Gemini API. While Artha runs on Gemini's free service, Google may use what is sent to improve its products, and people at Google may review it, under the Gemini API terms. For this reason the app asks you not to send papers with Aadhaar, bank account or medical details that you want to keep private. If Artha moves to a paid AI service where data is not used for training, this page and the notice in the app will say so.
Fair-use limits
To keep Artha free for everyone, each phone gets a number of free answers a day. To count them, the app sends a random ID made on your phone (not your phone number or any account), and our server sees your network address. The server stores only scrambled (hashed) versions of these, with a daily count, and deletes them after 7 days.
On your phone
Your answers and settings are saved in encrypted storage on your phone so you can see them again. Photos are not kept by Artha after they are read. You can delete one answer or all of them in the app (Settings → Delete all history), or by uninstalling it.
The camera and photo library are used only when you choose "Take a photo" or "Choose a photo". Read-aloud uses your phone's own voice, on the phone.
Not advice
Artha is not a government service and is not linked to any bank, office or company. It uses AI and can make mistakes. It is not legal, medical or financial advice. Check important details with the office that sent the paper. For cyber fraud, call 1930 or visit cybercrime.gov.in.
Children
Artha is meant for adults. It does not knowingly collect information from children.
